Not much happening with fish but still awesome getting out with @chrisdavison2022 My first session of 2024 and managed 1 COD in todays session. I then managed to slice my finger which didn't stop bleeding afterwards, blood everywhere so the SIB needed a good wash afterwards. Then the wind and tides met while lounging around Dunstanburgh Castle and the journey back in was EVIL. Yet another session out of Beadnell and what a session it was. Started off by finding £40 in the car park, then A massive 8lb 8oz kelpie caught by Alan as well as another clocking on 5lb and others around the 3lb mark, then had a visit from the Fisheries patrol who were pleased to see us, took our pics for their website and mentioned that they had a species hunt competition going on. We were using soft lures for most of the day which were very successful, especially my favourites, Rhubarb and Custard colour. Nothing on Bait and squid jigs this time. Yet another session on the Hydrus SIB at Beadnell Northumberland, again it didn't disappoint. Fish were caught by all that were out but I took none home on this trip, but loved every second of it as always. Some good company with @chrisdavison2022, Davey Dodds, Stuart and Jonjo Simms. Finally a weather window (we thought) for the SIB. We headed out on a loevly morning out of Mudeford but within the hour winds picked right up, condiotions were uncomfortable and rain hit us all morning. All of which were not forcast. Forcast was 8mph wind, 0.3m Swell and no rain... I decided to release the video anyway to show an honest reflection of what SIB fishing can be like. I apologise for the wind noise and lack of decent filming. Filming was hard work and my wind remover got wet and failed. Well guys, what a seasion it was for matt, he managed to bag himself a 35lb tope in chichester harbour! What a banger of a fish. Unfortunately for myself i didn’t manage to catch the one that got away on my last session in the same mark! Finally there was a weather window to get the Hydrus sib out and try for squid. Obviously the weather got bad pretty quickly and cut the trip short again but at least we caught some squid 1st! The video isn't the usual length due to the wind, rain and poor light but I think we got some good action to show you. This was the 1st time Kev and I have ever tried for squid off a boat and we learned some lessons and things to improve on next time, but all in all we had a good session in tough conditions. I can't wait to get out on a calm day and do even better! I used a landing net (until I lost it) but I don't think I would again. We didn't drop any squid and the net just caused more hassle than it was worth. This was a very last minute change of plan session. I was due to fish Weymouth for squid but the conditions were not good. One of the only places where the forecast was fairly decent was the Solent. So last minute I grabbed the sib and headed down for an afternoon/evening session. The target was COD which unfortunately didn't show, but 4 species were still caught. Hello everyone & Welcome back to the channel! Tonight we fished in Southampton waters for the first time ever in the sib! We ran into a few problems before the live of not being able to find a suitable slipway but luckily my last shot brought me to a wonderful slip which I will use again! The targets for this nights stream were Sole & Mackerel. We struggled heavily in this session. During the light we had a tiny pout which we kept for bait. Before dark we saw some sea gulls balling up by the shore to check it out. It seemed as if bass were attacking a bait ball. I managed to hook into 2 or so school bass on feathers but didn’t manage to land one. After this i decided to switch spots and we went and anchored up next to a buoy opposite Netley. The water here seemed to be 16m+ deep so I imagined there would be an abundance of fish! Unfortunately due to the tide pattern, we had no luck on the bait as there was no tide washing the fish around. We had a real scare when a dredger the “City of Chichester” went past as it kicked up one hell of a wake. This was enough for me to call it an evening as this wake definitely could flip an unsuspecting boat. However right at the dead while lifting anchor a pipe fish approached the boat and I grabbed it out the water! In the end we had 1 small pout & the pipe fish. Hi all! Well … what a great day myself and @FishingwithMattUK had out in his new Hydrus 3.7m sib! The fish started to bite as soon as there was a bait in the water, and it only stopped for about 10 minutes the whole day with the regular pests being the main catch! We did however manage a few nicer fish and my first ever unicorn in the Solent! #fishing #fyp #sib Another early launch out from Baiter park in Poole. With flat calm conditions I motored out to Old Harry. Very slow there unfortunately. Had a decent fish before deciding on exploring and going out the Durlston ledge. After an hour or two of motoring around I finally settled and started fishing with baits. Once the pesky Dogfish and Bream (which I left most out of the video) disappeared we started getting onto the better grade of fish. 6 species at this spot with a pb Ray ! And yes I did say in the video I caught my first ever scad !!! Once again as soon as the rays turned up the wind became unbearable and I had to head in. A good days fishing in the end though! *Disclaimer* I don't know why I half guess weights of fish when talking through the video.
